Cardiac stress tests are often ordered by doctors to investigate potential problems with the heart. They can help identify blockages and other potential problems without using invasive procedures like a heart catheter. In this video, I talk about the different types of heart stress tests (also called cardiac stress tests). There are many types, and sometimes different names are used. You may have heard terms like cardiac stress test, echo stress test, chemical stress test, nuclear stress test, lexiscan stress test, cardiolite stress test, treadmill stress test, adenosine stress test, thallium stress test, or dobutamine stress tests. All of those names correspond to a particular drug or method of stress testing. Don’t forget to Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_use...
An exercise stress test is a screening tool used to test the effect of exercise on your heart. This test is done at a medical center or health care provider's office. The technician will place 10 flat, sticky patches called electrodes on your chest. These are attached to an ECG monitor that follows the electrical activity of your heart during the test. You will walk on a treadmill or pedal on an exercise bicycle. Slowly (usually every 3 minutes), you will be asked to walk (or pedal) faster and on an incline. It is like walking fast or jogging up a hill. While you exercise, the activity of your heart is measured with an electrocardiogram (ECG), and your blood pressure readings are taken. This video demonstrates the Bruce protocol treadmill stress test. The first 4 stages of the Bruce protocol are shown in real time. Someone who is unsure if they can do a stress test should watch the video to judge the level of difficulty. The duration of your stress test will be determined by the person supervising your study and your exercise tolerance. It will likely be stopped at an earlier stage than what is shown.

Your physician may recommend non-invasive cardiac testing, based on your specific needs and symptoms. We share with you what to expect during an echocardiogram or a stress test, as well as what you need to prepare. An echocardiogram, also called an "echo," uses sound waves to form a picture of your heart. An echo shows how well your heart is working and how well your valves are opening and closing. A stress test shows the strength of your heart and how it responds to exercise. This test may also be used to determine the causes of chest pain.
